Turning Flight Hours into Futures

Bruno, did you always know you wanted to become a pilot?

I wasn’t always 100% certain, but I could never really imagine myself doing anything else. Nothing ever compared to the fulfillment that aviation promised. As I explored my options growing up in Ecuador, aviation always stood out.

What led you to pursue flight training in the United States?

I knew that to achieve excellence in this field, I needed to study at the highest level. The United States is home to some of the best flight schools in the world, so I enrolled in a visa program to complete my professional pilot training at an FAA-certified Academy.

What certifications did you achieve during your training?

I earned my Certified Flight Instructor (CFI), Certified Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII), and Multi-Engine Instructor (MEI) ratings – essential steps for anyone pursuing a commercial aviation career. These certifications also opened doors to building flight time and gaining valuable experience.

Was it easy to find opportunities after completing your certifications?

Not at all. My timing coincided with the aftermath of COVID-19, which made it tough. The aviation industry was recovering, and the instructor job market was competitive. That’s when I discovered SkyEagle Aviation Academy, a top-rated flight school known for its personalized training and international student programs.

What made SkyEagle different from other flight schools?

SkyEagle offered a teaching style I hadn’t experienced before. Instead of large classrooms, SkyEagle focused on individual flight instruction tailored to each student’s needs. This student-first approach helped me truly understand aviation theory and FAA knowledge – not just memorize answers for exams.

How did you adjust to that personalized training style?
It was definitely a challenge at first, but the team at SkyEagle saw my potential and gave me a chance. Their mentorship and structured training programs made all the difference in my development.

How much experience did you gain while at SkyEagle?
I logged around 1,200 flight hours in under two years. I advanced from a new CFI to becoming a Check Instructor and Multi-Engine Instructor. I also had the opportunity to prepare foreign airline pilots for their FAA ATP exams – a unique experience that sharpened my skills further.

Did your role at SkyEagle go beyond flight instruction?
Yes, over time I became involved in mentoring new instructors, supporting flight school operations, and helping develop course materials. This broadened my understanding of what makes a professional flight academy operate smoothly.

What came next in your aviation career?
After nearly two years at SkyEagle, I transitioned to corporate aviation, flying a Cessna Citation jet for Vista America. Shortly after, I upgraded to a Challenger 300 jet, which was a huge step forward in my jet pilot career.

“I’ll keep looking up and moving forward through my career but will not forget the place and time where it all started.”

What are your goals for the future in aviation?
My current focus is on building international jet time and gaining experience on larger aircraft. Ultimately, I’d love to become a training instructor or hold a leadership role within a global flight operation. Aviation offers so many paths, especially for those who start with strong fundamentals.

Looking back, how do you feel about your time at SkyEagle?
I’m incredibly grateful. The training, real-world flight experience, and connections I built there were life-changing. Many of the instructors and students I met are still close friends. SkyEagle gave me the launchpad for a successful flying career.
